Providing Cloud-Based Identity Services with Decentralized Systems

In today’s fast-moving digital world, digital identity is at the center of how people interact with information and transactions online. A significant section of society uses digital IDs for daily tasks like accessing government benefits, bank accounts, education, etc. Businesses use these IDs to effectively authenticate individuals to validate their identity and protect their businesses from fraud. However, these are centralized IDs issued, owned, and stored by one issuer, mostly a largescale conglomerate or tech giant. The customer and the user has no or limited insight and control of these data. All their attributes and claims are controlled by the issuer.

So the question is, how secure and user-friendly and adapted to the modern world is these IDs solely controlled by the issuer?

Many issues pertaining to privacy, user experience, data protection, security, and interoperability with digital IDs have been addressed on different occasions; there are many instances of hacks of centralized ID registers where a single point of failure caused a major security disaster, like in Indonesia where biometric data from the most of the population has been hacked. However, over recent years, decentralized identity has emerged as a revolutionary way of managing access to many services and platforms, allowing a portable, secure and user-friendly digital identity for each citizen.

It introduces the concept of user-owned IDs, which is fundamentally more secure than centralized identity registers, and the possibility for each user to secure personal attributes and claims being accepted by society.

Protectoria, a digital security specialist that operates on a secure cloud-based infrastructure, managing digital IDs based on decentralized architecture using selfsovereign identity (SSI), has the passion, the vision and the technology to solve these issues.

“Protectoria strives to secure transactions and protect values and privacy with inherent SSI technology choices for decentralized digital identities, delivering a secure, efficient, user-friendly and portable digital ID that everyone can use to prove his identity and his attributes,” says Trond Lemberg, CEO of Protectoria Venture.

With Protectoria Venture’s SSI technology platform, user data of each single user is stored decentralized and protected by encryption keys controlled by the user. It results in a more secure infrastructure that mitigates the risk of major data theft. It uses SSI technology to manage decentralized digital identities and provides each user with his own and unique encryption keys, and leverages a patent-pending proprietary technology to ensure superior transaction security.

With the Protectoria Venture architecture and its mobile wallet ‘MY IDentity,’ digital identity is fully interoperable and scalable. From onboarding to authorizing transactions and managing credentials, all customer interactions are secured, and relevant information is processed in a user-friendly and privacyfocused manner. Using its My Identity Services, digital IDs are created for natural citizens and businesses as legal persons. The ID holder manages his digital ID and can connect this recognized ID with personal attributes substantiating his claims; of age, skills, payments and ownership through the MY IDentity app. The technology provides the secure and mobile use of digital identity registers by connecting the pure digital ID with each individual’s personal attributes.

In the case of a legal person, the MYID app is provided to the business’s administrators, enabling them to manage their Digital ID stored in a server wallet and enables further digital IDs to customers and employees, creating a separate secure digital infrastructure.

For instance, Protectoria helped the Philippines’ senior citizens by providing a user-friendly digital mobile-based ID wallet enabling identification, authentication, and signing transactions – allowing them to claim benefits due by the Philippine law, with a digital eco-system replacing manual operations entirely.

Previously, seniors had to present their cards while purchasing to receive the discount post manual processes with signing, papers, and accounting. The process took three to five minutes per transaction leading to higher labor costs for merchants. Protectoria can extract data from national identity registers or LGU registers and provide them with a user-friendly digital mobile-based ID wallet enabling identification, authentication, and signing transactions in the digital eco-system. The secure digital infrastructure behind it ensures valid identification, mitigated fraud, and legal signing of the transaction in the same process. It also establishes secure communication for senior citizens, merchants, and LGUs.

Protectoria Strive to Secure Transactions and Protect Values and Privacy with Inherent SSI Technology Choices for Decentralized Digital Identities

To prepare for use cases with a need for a high level of assurance, Protectoria has patented the “Protectoria Secure Mobile Platform” which is a technology that protects the display of any devices and the digital transactions. This mechanism determines if display information sent to a device from is visually displayed in an untampered manner on a device’s screen. This protects citizens by securing the transaction, even if the device is compromised. This means, that this technology adds security to the already more secured decentralized digital infrastructure. With this patented mechanism Protectoria will be able to deliver the level-of-assurance high for the digital IDs with these requirements, like national identities.

In the SSI environment, Protectoria uses advanced encryption technologies to enable direct communication between two entities, securing identity verification between one another without interference from the identity issuer. With its SSI infrastructure, the decentralised digital IDs allow the parties to provide highly secure, end-to-end encrypted bilateral communication, enabling direct peer-to-peer legal transaction including payments and signing of contract.

Protectoria has successfully managed identities as the building block of any digital business model. Protectorias' strategy and action plan is to propose a digital identity technology aligned with the EU vision that meet urgent decentralized digital infrastructure needs in the ASEAN countries, even before the market for decentralized infrastructure is developed in Europe. It believes with the advance of new digital technologies, like the decentralized digital ID architecture, blockchain, and WEB3.0-inspired technology services, there are ample opportunities for digitization of markets in the ASEAN countries with a performing and user-friendly offering.
