Expert Protection against Device and Network Vulnerabilities

Octopus CyberSecurity develops device and network security software that provides risk managers and chief information security officers with a robust control mechanism and an in-depth view of operational risks, helping them maintain business continuity. Its validation, analysis, and reporting tool, Octopus VAR, helps organizations verify vendor-specific configurations and reduces risks by maintaining minimum cybersecurity guidelines.

Octopus VAR is geared toward the needs of organizations that have independent security and operations departments and are keen to ensure that they follow local, international, and organizational standards. While security analysts often lack the specialized knowledge required for each solution, operations teams are unaware of the security risks involved in making configuration changes.

“Our tool bridges the gap between security and operations teams by automatically detecting any configuration change and validating them from a security standpoint. Unlike most solutions in the market that provide updates once every ten minutes, Octopus VAR offers real-time detection and validation,” says Amjad Beainy, co-founder of Octopus CyberSecurity.

Focused on maintaining the highest standards, Octopus VAR offers vendor-specific security templates designed to comply with the Center of Internet Security benchmarks and the National Institute of Standards and Technology cybersecurity framework. These templates are built into its system as rules and are executed on target devices and IT systems, including firewalls, servers, operational technology devices, and telecom equipment.

Octopus VAR connects with a client’s IT systems and ensures all the required security settings are in place. In case a configuration change is made by the operations team, it collects a fresh copy of the configuration and compares it with the active security template to identify any changes to the minimum security baselines. When a baseline violation is identified, the tool alerts the security teams and informs them of the actions to be taken. They can remediate the issue remotely through the system or manually perform the necessary procedures.

The step-by-step instructions can also be forwarded to the concerned operations team to fix the problem.

Designed to save time, Octopus VAR automates manual processes and reduces the time taken to validate IT security devices by 70 percent. It also provides faster response for auditing requirements to complete IT compliance checks and helps reduce costs by eliminating the need to hire experienced professionals for IT security development.

Octopus CyberSecurity analyzes clients’ security posture and generates a compliance percentage report to help them understand what percentage of the minimum security baselines are met. Based on their objectives, customers can set a target compliance percentage and achieve it by validating configurational changes and remediating issues. For example, if their security systems are 50 percent compliant and their target is 90 percent, they can achieve the same by evaluating their baseline violations and resolving them using Octopus VAR.

In one instance, Octopus CyberSecurity’s services were solicited by an organization for validating their web application firewall. Upon scanning, the compliance percentage report revealed that only 38 percent of the minimum security guidelines were being followed. The team then prepared a report detailing the lack of compliance in their software. Using this report, the customer could reach out to the vendor, resolve the issues, and increase their compliance percentage.

Catering to banking, healthcare, government, military, and telecom organizations, Octopus CyberSecurity strives to deliver excellence. Each project begins with a proof of concept, where the team displays the product’s features. Once the customer is satisfied with the results, the team follows a project implementation plan to ensure that the tool is deployed according to the customer’s needs.

Beainy’s 18 years of experience in threat intelligence, incident response, vulnerability management, and compliance have taken Octopus CyberSecurity to new milestones. Its team of subject matter experts with extensive security backgrounds is dedicated to improving the security posture of organizations and eliminating errors in day-to-day operations.
