Even with threat management, sometimes it can be challenging to protect against innovative threats and insider threats. Here are some of the common challenges that the industry has to deal with even with threat management.
1. Lack of Visibility
The security teams do not have complete visibility of the threat landscape with appropriate context, consisting of internal and external data sources like HR, database, cloud, users, OSINT, dark web, social media, threat intel, and many others. This issue among the security teams mainly occurs due to a lack of integration between point solutions and undefined or inconsistent procedures within the company. Many enterprises even use almost 80 different security products from various vendors.
2. Lack of Insights and Out-of-the-Box Reporting
In many situations, the security teams do not have useful insights about the KPIs they must be tracking and how they can get actual metrics like MTTD, MTTR, and ROI. Due to a lack of integration among the point solutions, there is no easy way to develop reports that will show progress against maturity standards and compliance. If different security teams are used for measuring against other KPIs, it can become challenging to make them work on a common objective for the company. According to researchers, the complexity of the IT environment is the most significant security challenge for them.
3. Skill Shortage and Staff Burnout
The security leaders also have difficulty hiring qualified talent and keeping the present staff motivated due to a shortage of market and analyst burnout skills. It can also become challenging to find an extra staff budget. The security leaders have to search for a creative method to borrow talents from other cross-functional units like technical sales, customer support, and many more. But it is also necessary to properly train them about the security system to be efficient in the field.
