Digitalization and new fire protection technology can make our fire safety systems more effective, reliable, and sustainable.
FREMONT, CA: Digitalization and new technologies bring room for improvement in many industries - and fire safety is no different. Since the development of the first automated water sprinkler, technology has come a long way to make fire prevention more effective and reliable. See what the newest solutions are and learn how they work!

The Internet of Things (IoT) enables increased functionality through the interconnection and sharing of electronic devices over a network. Things that use IoT include televisions, home lighting systems, refrigerators, and even automobiles. However, the Internet of Things can also update and revolutionize fire safety equipment. How?
One major benefit of an IoT-based centralized system is that the complete fire protection system may be run automatically by a single computer and a single piece of software. Interconnected alarm systems are the foundation of many traditional fire safety systems. Still, they are only sometimes compatible with one another and can have varying monitoring and maintenance needs depending on who installed them.
The Internet of Things facilitates a more reliable and rapid data connection between fire detection and critical life processes. During an emergency, it is crucial that facility management can access the whole fire safety system from one room, on one device, or even through their smartphones.
Also rising are "smart" structures outfitted with state-of-the-art fire detection equipment. When a fire occurs, the sensors in the building can read the temperature so accurately that they can alert the building's inhabitants well before the traditional smoke alarms go off.
Using BIM
BIM (Building Information Modelling) helps architects, engineers, and building operators by compiling all relevant data about a building into a three-dimensional model. This comprises the most crucial facts concerning fire protection– a fire detector system, the required fire resistance of any given door or wall, etc.
BIM ensures efficient collaboration by simultaneously giving all project specialists access to the same information. All the data a fire protection planner needs to make decisions about, say, altering fire compartments, is in one convenient location. As a result, all other specialists in the building will have instant access to updated information, including pinpoints of where new dividers are required. In a nutshell, Building Information Modeling (BIM) ensures consistency and accuracy throughout the entire project, making fire-safe buildings.
The building management can also later utilize all the stored data of installed components. It summarizes when you should service your fire doors, smoke alarms, and extinguishers.
Predictive Analytics and Massive Data Sets
Evaluating large volumes of data gives us room for improvement in risk analyses. The ability of Big Data analyses to provide reliable forecasts of future events is currently the subject of study. By rearranging buildings and other infrastructure in the event of a fire, these numbers could improve emergency response times and save lives.
