Each company can derive advantages from biometric authentication methods by scrutinising specific benefits rendered by each method.
FREMONT, CA: Every biometric authentication method and its types have a similar goal and operate to measure and analyse the inherent unique characteristics of a particular person to confirm their identity. Therefore, physical documents are being replaced by biometric identification. This is highly visible with the development of modern technology that even allows people to unlock mobile devices with fingerprints or transfer money by voice commands. With these beneficiary factors, biometric identification methods are emerging in different types and offer extensive advantages.

Fingerprint recognition is a type of physical biometrics processed using a fingerprint scanner to authenticate data. There are a variety of biometric systems divided into three types that work in three different ways. They are, converting a fingerprint into a digital code using an optical sensor, converting a fingerprint with a capacitive authentication sensor, and saving conversion by using a linear thermal sensor.
As fingerprints are unique identifiers specific to an individual, they are highly advantageous and this type of authentication is widely known. Fingerprint scanning removes the need to remember complex passwords. Moreover, these scanners are affordable and accessible.
Voice Recognition
Voice, like fingerprints, is a unique inherent feature that is unique to each individual. Many companies using phones for communication offer great potential for the use of voice recognition biometric authentication methods. Moreover, voice recognition is user-friendly and requires less effort on the part of the user. Adopting this technology leads to an acceleration of services and an efficient way of working. It has various benefits, such as security systems, credit card verification, forensic analysis, and teleconferencing.
Voice recognition is time-saving for both users and agents, especially when using passive voice biometrics. The unique feature of voice benefits by making it difficult to falsify, and there is no need to remember and then use a password while authenticating.
Iris Recognition
Iris scanning technology operates by locating pupils and then detecting the iris and eyelids. Later, unnecessary parts like eyelids and eyelashes are avoided to select only the iris part, which is then separated into blocks and converted into numerical values representing the image. Finally, identity is confirmed by matching previously and newly collected data using the same techniques.
The iris is an internal organ which is well protected against damage by a highly transparent and sensitive membrane. Therefore, there is less chance for minor injuries to influence scanning devices. Iris is an invariant organ specific to each individual and has a high level of randomness between people. Additionally, there is no need to memorise complicated passwords.
Facial Recognition
It is the automated localisation of a human face in an image or video. Based on an image of someone’s face stored in data as a numerical code, facial recognition technology can be utilised to confirm a person’s identity. This method is highly applicable to videoconferencing. This technology requires fewer interactions with the device and is effective when combined with other biometric techniques. Facial recognition also removes the need for memorising complex passwords.
