Nowadays, passwords are no more the most secure access control method. Poor password management lead to major security breaches. Most people use the same password for multiple accounts, making them vulnerable to security attacks. This warrants the need for multilayered secure access control. Biometric methods like fingerprint analysis or face recognition do provide better security, but ways to bypass them have also developed. Anybody with internet access can learn how to extract fingerprints from a person. Voice imitation can fool voice recognition, and contact lenses can bypass iris scans. Carnegie Mellon University successfully developed glasses that can fool facial recognition. These developments require a more secure form of access control technology. To mitigate this issue, Biometric Signature ID offers a highly effective solution with the use of BioSig-ID.

Using multi-factor authentication (MFA), Biometric Signature ID (BSI) is the leading developer of biometric ID verification software solutions. BSI was founded by Jeff and Cindy Maynard.

The couple envisioned BioSig-ID years before the technology supporting it even existed. They soon realized their vision and reinvented password protection with BioSig-ID, an ID authentication solution that captures its user’s movements as he/she draws or writes using a finger or mouse. It blends biometric technology with the more common password system people are already accustomed to. While logging in with a biometric password, BioSig-ID software collects biometric identifier data like length, speed, direction, and precision of each stroke made by the user. When the password is entered again, the software compares it with previously collected data and grants access only if matched. Just adding four characters biometrically differentiates legitimate users from imposters. One problem with biometric authorization is that once the data is entered, it cannot be reset.

BioSig-ID allows resetting of password ‘n’ number of times. With password being “something you know,” and handwriting being “something you are,” BioSig-ID can provide multi-factor authentication (MFA).

To check BioSig-ID’s efficiency, the Tolly Group conducted a survey. It yielded that BioSig-ID provided 99.97 percent protection against imposters. More than 10,000 test attempts were made to crack the authentication, none of which succeeded. The imposters were even provided with the correct passwords but to no avail. Almost 98 percent found BioSig-ID easy to use, and 44 percent stated that it is more convenient than a fingerprint scanner.

Building upon BioSig-ID, BSI developed various applications to improve authentication security over multiple platforms. For example, BioTect-ID helps in securely locking PCs, tablets, and laptops using BioSig- ID and can work both online and offline. BioProof-ID provides enrolment with biometric authentication tying BioSig-ID with real-world proofs like driving licenses. With BioSafe-ID, Account holders need to authenticate their identity before the commencement of any transaction. This reduces fraud and chargebacks. In BioName-ID, users provide a signature as data. This means that next time the user sign, their signature is compared with the previous template.

After the launch of BioTect-ID in spring 2019, BSI is now looking to implement it in forensics to detect unauthorized access attempts. For this, BSI hopes to combine Human behaviour analysis with AI technology. Hopefully, BSI’s future endeavours may bring even greater advancements in the field of Biometric security.

BioSig-ID Partners with Mitek to Enable Digital Identity Proofing for Fast and Secure Gesture Biometric Enrollment

SAN DIEGO and LONDON: Mitek (NASDAQ:MITK) and BioMetric Signature ID™ (BSI), a leading developer of gesture based biometrics for ID verification and access management, announced that Mitek will provide identity verification for its authentication solution BioProof-ID™. This will ensure that gestural biometrics are assigned to the correct person during the enrollment process.

Historically, the challenge with biometric authentication has been how to ensure that the generated biometric profile is assigned to the actual account owner. While biometrics themselves are unique and offer high-levels of security assurance, adding identity document verification to the process creates a more comprehensive solution that ensures that the person enrolling is the intended end user. Mitek’s technology will be used to verify the individual’s real-world identity as part of the BioSig-ID enrollment process. This partnership solution links BSI’s gesture technology to a real person without a break in the identity verification process, creating a more streamlined approach.

Through this partnership, Mitek’s Mobile Verify® will be a key component of BioProof-ID’s authentication process. Using patented science, Mobile Verify confirms users’ identities by digitally validating the authenticity of government issued identity documents presented during the enrollment process. It adds a second layer of identity verification with sophisticated biometric face comparison algorithms that automatically compare the portrait extracted from the identity document with a selfie; proving that the person submitting the ID document is its rightful owner.

X-Fab adds BSI to optical sensor process

X-FAB Silicon Foundries, the analogue/mixed-signal and specialty foundry, has added a back-side illumination (BSI) capability p to its XS018 180nm CMOS semiconductor process used for optical sensors

Through BSI, imaging devices’ performance characteristics can be significantly enhanced. It means that the back-end process metal layers do not block the incident light from reaching the pixels, increasing fill factors by up to 100%.

This is highly beneficial in situations of low-level illumination – as higher pixel light sensitivity can be achieved. BSI also offers the added advantage of significantly reducing the crosstalk between neighboring pixels, due to shorter light paths, leading to better image quality.

Though small-pixel BSI solutions for 300mm wafers with high-volume consumer usage are commonplace, there are very few options available for image sensors with stitched large-pixel arrangements for 200mm wafers, especially when additional customizations are required.

“BSI technology has become increasingly prevalent in modern imaging devices, thanks to its ability to boost image quality by placing light-sensitive elements closer to the light source and avoiding unwanted circuitry obstructions. This is proving very useful in environments where light is limited,” says X-Fab’s Heming Wei, “though much of this uptake has been within the consumer electronics sector, there are now numerous opportunities emerging in the industrial, automotive and medical markets. Via access to X-FAB’s BSI foundry solution, it will now be possible for these to be properly attended to, with a compelling offering being provided that brings together heightened sensitivity, enlarged image sensor dimensions and bigger pixel capacities too.”

The new X-FAB BSI capability brings new possibilities, allowing customers with even the most demanding application expectations to be served – such as those involved in X-Ray diagnostic equipment, industrial automation systems, astronomical research, robotic navigation, vehicle front cameras, etc.

Leveraging the XS018 platform, which offers high readout speeds and exhibits low dark currents, image sensors with multiple epi options will be produced. An ARC layer can be added and then tuned in accordance with particular customer requirements.

The accompanying X-FAB support package covers a full workflow from initial design through to the shipment of engineering samples, with a comprehensive PDK included.
