Free Cybersecurity Training: Here's How Fortinet Continues to Address the Skills Gap

By Enterprise Security Magazine | Wednesday, January 27, 2021

The course participants can learn how to customize firewall protocols, user authentication, routing, and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) VPNs using self-directed videos.

FREMONT, CA: For months, there has been a shift to the remote worker paradigm, and many in-person tasks that people have participated in are interrupted. The cybersecurity skills shortage has been a significant problem for many organizations. Still, at this moment of change, the need for cybersecurity knowledge is more critical than ever because workers are online from home.

The truth is that security is being transferred from the network edge to the laptops, computers, and home networks of their remote end-users. Many people do not have the required cyber protection expertise or awareness to defend themselves or their computers. Cybercriminals are all too happy to take advantage of this information and skills deficit.

FortiGuard Labs has seen, for example, a large spike in emails using Coronavirus-related patterns and social media tricks from attackers. Building on their long-standing commitment to building cybersecurity knowledge and solving cybersecurity expertise gaps, Fortinet has added a new training course, FortiGate Essentials, to its Network Security Expert (NSE) Institute Training and Qualification Program.

Free FortiGate Essentials Training Course Provides Critical Skills

FortiGate Essentials Training Course built to ensure that everyone is looking to develop their cybersecurity skills to progress their training from the comfort of their home, which is free of charge. This latest course would benefit established cybersecurity experts and IT professionals looking to improve their cybersecurity expertise and training. The course participants can learn how to customize firewall protocols, user authentication, routing, and Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) VPNs using self-directed videos. Participants will be shown how they can deploy and manage a simple network protection system while they practice.

Approximately eight hours of online, self-paced preparation and one hour of regular live online lab demonstrations are part of the course. There is an extra hour of regular live Q&A web sessions (following the lab demo) and online chat forums. These regular video sessions allow our Fortinet Certified Instructors (FCTs) to show how to install and use FortiGate features in a live network environment. They also provide an incentive for the course participants to communicate with our teachers to ask questions and extend their understanding of the topics taught during the lessons.

The course builds on the curriculum of their current NSE Level 4 certification program. Participants of other NSE Institute initiatives, including the Fortinet Network Security Academy (FNSA), comprising academic and non-profit organizations, and the Fortinet initiative, which supports veterans and their spouses join the workforce by preparation and mentoring, also can further develop cybersecurity capabilities through this new course.
