By Enterprise Security Magazine | Friday, February 22, 2019

To improve their existing security offerings, cybersecurity software developing corporations Fortinet and Bitdefender have acquired  Zonefox and RedSocks Security. This acquisition enhances their intelligence offerings. Zonefox is a private Scottish company that prevents data loss, ensures compliance, and mitigates insider threats. RedSocks Security, based in the Netherlands, focuses on the analysis of behavior and network security.

This is Bitdefender’s first market acquisition, and they hope that its security portfolio will be expanded from here. This acquisition will help them open up more global sales opportunities, mainly in Europe, as the company is based in the Netherlands.

This ZoneFox acquisition enables Fortinet to provide more profound visibility in the endpoints, data flow, and user behavior. Zonefox has been bought over by Fortinet for an undisclosed amount. Zonefox was a rising star in the software industry in Scotland. The combination of existing offers in Fortinet security fabric with the capabilities available in Zonefox solution will also help them to provide more comprehensive machine capabilities that can threaten billions of events per day leads to blind spots and alerts users of suspicious activities.

Fortinet has 360,000 customer companies and claims to sell more cybersecurity packages than any other provider to companies. The ZoneFox team will join Fortinet as a part of the agreement, while the FortiClient endpoint security solution will implement its technology. The merger of Fortinet and ZoneFox further enhances the Fortinet Security Fabric by giving companies greater visibility in endpoints, user behavior, and access to resources and movement of data. This ability helps to illuminate security blind spots and address the concerns of CISOs about insider risks. Some use cases include movement of endpoints to endpoints, infiltration of data, internal reconciliation, insider fraud, unauthorized access to assets, and misuse or compromise of accounts.

Bitdefender will add non-intrusive, real-time breach detection solutions and incident response services by acquiring the intelligence company RedSocks Security with behavior and network threat, extending its existing multi-layered security capabilities. Meanwhile, according to the company, the analytical capabilities of RedSocks will be combined with Bitdefender’s GravityZone, a cloud-based security solution for cash- strapped IT teams, to create a deeper awareness of potential threats.
