| | September- 2020ENTERPRISE SECURITY6Endpoints have become diverse over a period. With BYOD and IOT, the definition of what constitutes an endpoint is also changing. Enterprise customers need to look at threats (outside-in, inside-out) and device vulnerability in entirety. Enterprise endpoints continue to be the most vulnerable and often the last line of defense to prevent attacks.Beyond the threat of malware infection, the broad reliance on distributed endpoint devices--including desktops, laptops, tablets, smartphones and wearables--poses a number of challenges to enterprise security assuredness. In traditional environments, endpoint devices (primarily desktops) and the applications and data they utilized were kept contained on controlled business networks. However, the ever-increasing footprint of point products to detect, protect and respond to cyber-attacks adds to the complexity of securing the enterprise. Each of the point products adds an agent to the endpoint and is often managed independent of the other security technologies present on that endpoint.A particularly worrisome manifestation of the visibility problem occurs when endpoints disconnect from and then reconnect to the network. Specifically, research shows that 63 percent of organizations are unable to monitor endpoint devices when they leave the corporate network, and 53 percent reveal that malware-infected endpoints have increased in the last 12 months. Adding to the challenge of endpoint security is a geographically dispersed workforce, in which employees do their work at scores of locations--from central headquarters and satellite campuses to branch and home offices. Such ubiquitous connectivity may be convenient, but it also poses substantial security risks. Man-in-the-middle attacks, as an example, allow third parties to eavesdrop on all information that passes between the user and the corporate network. Attackers can exploit unpatched software vulnerabilities to inject malware into the endpoint device, to not only access local information but also gain access to the corporate network via the endpoint device.Managing these multiple endpoint technologies adds to the complexity of the environment. IT and security teams across organizations want `simple to deploy and use', `easy to manage' product that can work on heterogeneous environments and provide overall security. We hope this edition will help you in making an informed decision about the Effective Endpoint Security Vendors.Let us know your thoughts! The Key to Effective Endpoint Security EditorialRussell Thomas Managing Editor editor@enterprisesecuritymag.comSEPTEMBER - 21 - 2020, Volume 06 - 18 Published by ValleyMedia, Inc.
