| | ENTERPRISE SECURITY6 NOVEMBER - 2021A rash of cyberattacks has renewed attention on identity and access management (IAM), which is experiencing a surge in demand across enterprises today. Growth in such tools is driven by organizations' need to protect and grow virtual workforces while securing digital transformation initiatives.Imagine this scenario--If you are the CEO of a mid-sized organization with branches in different continents and three thousand employees, how efficiently could you monitor logins? Perhaps, on a bad day, an employee would have lost their Smartphone or lost the paper in which they wrote the password. In such a case, would you identify that one illegal or criminal login from all the 3000 logins that day? While decentralized identity is yet to become a full-blown practice, passwords are still the prime source for protecting data, and IoT devices are continuously being hacked. In this scenario, we are yet to find a universal solution to manage online identities in both the government and the private sector. Since the IAM space is continuously evolving, organizations identify new trends in Identity and Access Management to minimize data-breaches, meet regulatory requirements, and manage user identities to the utmost extent.Security. Efficiency. Simplicity. Productivity. Compliance. While the benefits of deploying a robust IAM solution are clear, the cost and complexity of implementation can derail even the most well-intentioned organization. In addition, enterprises can ensure security by deploying solutions with strong multifactor authentication, while eliminating user frustration by delivering seamless access to cloud-based applications through SSO. Furthermore, as identity and access management becomes increasingly complex, the ability to create policies based on granular, contextual information will become more and more important. IAM solutions that can collect and make decisions based on user identity, location, device, and the requested resource will allow enterprises to deliver quick access to bona fide employees, partners, contractors, or guests--and easily revoke or deny privileges to unauthorized users. However, when enterprises consider the cost of a potential security breach or study the inefficiencies inherent to the manual provisioning and de-provisioning of access to corporate resources, the imperative is clear: Now is the time to build a centralized IAM team that can build and enforce organization-wide identity and access management policies.Let us know your thoughts. The Rising Importance of Access ControlEditorialRussell Thomas Managing Editor russell@enterprisesecuritymag.comNOVEMBER - 01 - 2021, Volume 07 - 15 Published by ValleyMedia, Inc.
