Against this backdrop, incorporating zero trust principles into modern data security ensures no one point of failure when data is breached. Zero trust architectures with embedded automation and orchestration capabilities can complement and magnify other automated IT approaches such as DevSecOps and NoOps.A key element of the zero trust approach is microsegmenting networks, data, applications, workloads, and other resources into individual, manageable units to contain breaches and wrap security controls at the lowest level possible. By limiting access based on the principle of least privilege, a minimum set of users, applications, and devices has access to data and applications. Zero trust architectures can be designed and engineered in such a way that they produce simple, modular environments with easy user access control and management. The zero trust approach is a philosophical shift in how businesses think about security, rather than a product, solution, or platform. Migrating to an effective zero trust security architecture is more of a marathon than a sprint, with organisations not only addressing foundational cybersecurity issues and adopting security automation and orchestration, but also preparing for the organisational and cultural shifts that come with such mindset shifts. In the light of the shifting cybersecurity in a world that is increasingly becoming digital, distributed ,mobile and cloud base, end user organizations should adopt zero trust principles to enable workers to access cloud based and on premise services securely. They should also evaluate their existing set of security tools in terms of support for zero trust, fill in any gaps, and retire any tools that do not support zero trust. When it comes to implement zero trust, there is no silver bullet. Even companies with the greatest resources to throw at the task won't achieve full maturity overnight. However, the digital nature of our modern economy means that security threats will only intensify, so no business can afford to stand still.Let us know your thoughts!Russell Thomas Managing Editor editor@enterprisesecuritymag.com
