| | June - 2020ENTERPRISE SECURITY6The cyber security industry has crossed $100 billion and it will rise to $300 billion by 2024. Looking back at enterprise security landscape, clear insights reveal that traditional security measures like `Castle and Moat (C&M)' concepts are outdated. In C&M security concept, access from outside is difficult but insiders (employees) have full access. Once an attacker gains entry, they get free rein over everything. "Zero Trust", a futuristic approach to enterprise security is a recent buzzword among security enthusiasts. In Zero Trust network, inside and outside trust is not default. Authentication is required for everyone to gain access to resources on the network and preventing access abuse by giving users only necessary privileges. Onto the data front, enterprises have also switched their data to the cloud; Information is now spread across cloud vendors and data centers. Yet, Enterprises announce data breaches almost every day. This is because the threats still remain; only the platforms have changed. Attackers simply diversify and improve their methods, be it for extortion, revenge, whistle blowing or espionage, their tactics have always varied over a wide range of spectrum. Hackers have gone global and hardly ever act alone in their pursuit to infiltrate and bring down huge corporations. To combat this, Enterprises need to stay not just steps ahead but miles ahead in Cyber Security. This is why enterprises are actively funding various security start-ups in hopes of bringing new talents and new perspectives to purge the ever-growing security threats. , As goals align, global security partnerships will benefit everyone involved and in approaching Cyber Security holistically. Enterprises should also enforce Zero Trust and adopt stealth tactics like deception, invisible threat mitigation, and applications such as real-time packet manipulation. Let's not forget, countering insider threats, facilitating independent security audits, monitoring employee morale and educating them about security threats will contribute greatly towards bolstering security. Automated security measures (AI managed) can help too, less number of people handling security protocols, the better. Recent EU data privacy laws (GDPR) will cause enterprises to rethink their strategies, increasing investment in robust and up-to-date security solutions by either third party vendors or potential security start-ups. In this edition of Enterprise Security Magazine, We are highlighting promising security start-ups on multiple fronts like AI, Deep learning, Threat Intelligence, and Blockchain. Cyber Security Start-ups have to be unique and credible--to stay ahead of the game.Let us know your thoughts.Into a Security Centric WebscapeEditorialRussell Thomas Managing Editor russell@enterprisesecuritymag.comJUNE- 22- 2020, Volume 06 - 13 Published by ValleyMedia, Inc.
