| | June - 2020ENTERPRISE SECURITY6The global brand protection market is expected to be of $7.66 billion by 2026 at a CAGR of 8.66 percent. The statistic points toward an underlying threat: the rapid expansion of brand counterfeiting across every industry vertical, be it FMCG or defense and aerospace. There are many reasons behind this continuous and growing attacks on brands and intellectual properties, such as technological advancement, the rapid growth of consumerism, the demand for low price, and economic disparity, to name a few.The only way to tame the budding menace of brand counterfeiting is by adequately understanding modern attack strategies and developing the ability to think ahead of the bad actors. Criminals these days do not resort to traditional ways of launching products with the real company's logo or duplicated brand marks. Considering the thumping success of online brands and the proliferating number of consumers who rely on a simple Google search to purchase products, bad actors are more driven toward harming brands digitally. Take cybersquatting, for example. The U.S. Anti-cybersquatting Consumer Protection Act defines it as the practice of using the same domain name as the original brands to mislead customers. Unfortunately, cybersquatting still traps a large number of purchasers that adversely impacts a brand's integrity and undermines the brand value. Apart from this, email phishing, brand hijacking, and hashtag hijacking cause significant threats to brands. Such challenges have impelled brands to secure digital footprint and resist intellectual property infringement leveraging cutting-edge traceability solutions, monitoring the use of trademark, and keeping away unauthorized sellers. This edition aims to provide readers insights from industry leaders to help them have a detailed understanding of the brand protection solutions arena and the recent developments in this field.Let us know your thoughts.Toward the New Era of Brand ProtectionEditorialRussell Thomas Managing Editor michael@enterprisesecuritymag.comJUNE - 08 - 2020, Volume 06 - 11 Published by ValleyMedia, Inc.
