Yet as the IoT field evolves, so too must its security capabilities.Cybercriminals are constantly searching for vulnerabilities in business networks, home computers, and now IoT devices for opportunities to steal information, extort businesses, and take control of computer systems remotely. IoT devices open up a whole new world to hackers and cyberthieves. The responsibility falls on those implementing the technology to take all the necessary precautions to include appropriate safeguards. A key challenge in building security protocols for IoT is that there is a lack of standards available, thanks to the complexity of the IoT ecosystem and a huge number of devices from a wide range of vendors worldwide.2020 has been a year of steady evolution for IoT security companies and cybersecurity consulting services. As the market continues to expand, companies will invest more into enforcing the entire paradigm: from making security by design a fundamental engineering practice to implementing security features at all other levels and, most importantly, educating end users about effective methods of protecting their homes and businesses from prying eyes and data leaks. We expect that attacks from IoT botnets, ransomware and COVID-19-themed malware will continue to grow, though they will shift and adapt in the second half of the year. Strong cyber protection of IoT networks starts with trained cybersecurity experts who are proficient in protecting infrastructure, securing data and information, running risk analysis and mitigation, architecting cloud-based security, and achieving compliance.In this regard, security gaps related to people, processes and technology have a large impact. For example, the separation of IT and OT in organizations with increasingly connected IT, OT, and IoT systems can lead to blind spots.
